The Crew MotorFest: A Test Drive
What can I say other than I absolutely loved The Crew 2 by Ubisoft and I am not even a racing game fan. So, when a friend told me of a new Crew game called Motorfest, I got excited and wanted to join in the Hawaii Island vroom vrooms. Then, I had been told that you can move most of your cars from The Crew 2 to Motorfest, plus a few vanities. Now this news sold me back into something I usually do not do in today's gaming market; I preordered the game.
Initially, the preorder allowed for early access and I took every bit of opportunity to get behind the wheel of the hottest cars, beautifully rendered in the spectacular Hawaiian atmosphere. Sure,to unlock the races, I had to go through a few playlists and storylines but the racing should be fun considering the full awe created thus far. So, pull up to the starting line, rev that engine, and get ready to burn out into a world of enjo…blue screen.
Alright, I have a base PlayStation 4, so it could be a bit much for such a simple system to run. Restart, get on that starting line, and let's get to some racing! 3…2…1…BLUE SCREEN! After a rushing river of colorful words and expletive phrases were expelled, I continued to try. After all, the game had not released as of yet, so Ubisoft clearly has time to fix a few things right? Right?
Little did we all know, Motorfest would fall prey to the same Ubisoft mistakes as the previous titles, plus a few more games. If those simple mistakes weren't bad enough, the concept of racing as a "crew" no longer works, and you can race as a "crew" by yourself. Surely this will all be fixed by the weekend right?
How about a freeplay weekend!?!?! Even more players can experience the joys of not being able to race against your crew unless you join the massive Grand Race! Yes, the only way you can race your friends is with a bunch of Scrubs that race as if this were GTA V. So much potential for an opening weekend and Ubisoft decided BLUE SCREEN!
Well, shit…..
In all honesty, the game has room to grow once the crashes and Crew concept gets worked out. The fact Ubisoft did not get this right after failing multiplayer on the third title in this series means they have not learned anything from their previous attempts. Once again, burned by the Triple A promise of a better game upon delivery, and recieving a buggy lemon of beautiful visuals when it decides to work. Linked here is my latest stream (as of this writing) that would offer a prime example of what I am talking about. As for my recommendation; wait for the bugs to be worked out, then buy the game.
And, as always, Git Gud Scrubs!
